Hillsong Pastor Carl Lentz Fails to Condemn Abortion

Well-known pastor of Hillsong Church, Carl Lentz, has run into controversy after he failed to condemn abortion while he was a guest on “The View.”
Co-host Joy Behar asked Lentz whether or not he believes abortion is wrong, to which he responded, “That’s the kind of conversation we would have finding out your story, where you’re from, what you believe. I mean, God’s the judge. People have to live to their own convictions,” Lentz continued. “That’s such a broad question, to me, I’m going higher. I want to sit with somebody and say, ‘What do you believe?’”
James Silberman, a contributor to TheFederalist.com, notes that Lentz’s failure to unequivocally condemn abortion is indicative of the moral relevancy which is so pervasive in our culture, and even within the Church.
“‘Live to your own convictions’” is practically the slogan of the abortion lobby,” notes Silberman.
After Lentz’s answer to the abortion question, Behar pushed the issue even further: “So it’s not an open and shut case for you?” she asked.
“Some people would say it is,” Lentz responded. “To me, I’m trying to teach people who Jesus is first, and find out their story. Before I start picking and choosing what I think is sin in your life, I’d like to know your name.”
What do you think? Do you agree with Lentz?

Atheist Immigrant Sues to Remove ‘So Help Me God’ from Citizenship Oath

Atheist Immigrant Sues to Remove ‘So Help Me God’ from Citizenship Oath

A French immigrant and atheist who is living in Massachusetts has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government, arguing that the phrase “so help me God,” which is included in the oath to obtain U.S. citizenship, violates the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
“By its very nature, an oath that concludes ‘so help me God’ is asserting that God exists,” says the lawsuit, as reported by The Christian Post. “Accordingly, the current oath violates the first 10 words of the Bill of Rights, and to participate in a ceremony which violates that key portion of the United States Constitution is not supporting or defending the Constitution as the oath demands.”
Olga Paule Perrier-Bilbo, who is filing the lawsuit, claims that the oath is prohibiting her from becoming an American citizen because it violates her religious beliefs, or lack thereof.
Perrier-Bilbo is filing the lawsuit despite the fact that she was given the choice of using an alternative phrase in a private citizenship ceremony. She argues that “so help me God” shouldn’t be included in the U.S. citizenship oath at all.
Erwin Chemerinsky, who is a First Amendment expert and a dean at Berkeley Law, said it is unlikely that Perrier-Bilbo will be successful in her case. “Courts generally have not been receptive to this in the context of the Pledge of Allegiance,” he said.

Decade after Church Burnings in Nigeria, Officials Forbid Rebuilding

0

A decade after Muslims attacked and displaced Christians in a town in northern Nigeria, Kano state officials have forbidden church buildings to be rebuilt there, sources said.
Eight church buildings destroyed in late September 2007 in predominantly Muslim Tudun Wada Dankadai, Kano state, are still in ruins, a Morning Star News correspondent observed earlier this month.
The buildings of St. Mary’s Catholic, Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Baptist, Assemblies of God, Charismatic Renewal, Mountain of Fire and Miracle and Deeper Christian Life Bible churches, along with that of another  church, have not been rebuilt because local Muslims have refused to allow it, Joseph Opeyemi Ibinkule, a 42-year-old a Christian resident of Tudun Wada Dankadai, told Morning Star News.
“Christians who have braved it and returned after the attacks in 2007 have no worship buildings up to today,” Ibinkule said. “The reason is that the government of Kano state has banned us from rebuilding our churches.”
No pastor lives in the town, he said, and only a few come to lead services to a smattering of church members in the hostile environment.
“These are the ECWA pastor and the Catholic priest,” he said. “Both of live in the city of Kano and only come to conduct services under trees for their members.”
Kano state officials declined to comment to Morning Star News.
Ibinkunle said the 2007 assault, in which at least nine Christians were killed, was ignited by Muslim students accusing high school Christians of blasphemy.
“The Muslim students attacked Christian students, and soon they were joined by Muslims in this town,” he said. “All eight churches were destroyed, Christians were displaced, and many Christians were also killed. I personally saw three corpses of members of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church who were killed by the Muslim attackers.”
The attack was premeditated, and then it led to further spontaneous violence, he said. Church buildings were burned, and houses and shops of Christians were looted and charred, he added.
Advocacy group Christian Solidarity Worldwide reported in 2007 that the violence began after Muslim students stormed into a room shared by two Christian students at the Government Secondary School in Tudun Wada and began to assault them.
“When the Christian students asked what they had done wrong, their assailants initially told them to ‘mind their own business,’” CSW reported. “However, once the school principal arrived at the scene, the Christians were accused of drawing a picture of Muhammad on a mosque wall and of planning an assault on Muslim students.”
Local authorities appeared to limit access to the area to obscure inquiry into the extent of the casualties, according to CSW. Tudun Wada’s chief of police sealed the area off, and local authorities transported Christians out of the area and removed all corpses. Those trying to help victims were denied access, CSW reported.
Three Mountain of Fire pastors in Kano City were temporarily detained when they attempted to evacuate members of their denomination, according to CSW.
“As a result of this enforced isolation of the area, the exact number of fatalities is difficult to determine,” CSW reported. “However, sources suspect that the toll is far higher than originally stated. One policeman was overheard complaining of being ‘fed up of packing corpses.’”
The son of an Apostolic Church pastor, Ibinkunle said he has been worshipping under a tree with the members of the ECWA congregation since the 2007 attack.
Court Efforts
ECWA leaders in Tudun Wada have taken the Kano state government to court for prohibiting them from reconstructing the church buildings.
“The Kano state government stopped us from rebuilding the destroyed ECWA church in Tudun Wada, so we have taken the matter to court, and we hope we shall get justice at the end of the case,” the Rev. Murtala Marti Dangora, vice chairman of the Kano State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), told Morning Star News.
The Rev. Ayuba Hassan, chairman of Tudun Wada chapter of CAN, said the ECWA is the only church trying to reestablish itself in Tudun Wada.
“We currently worship under a tree and have continued to insist that we be allowed to rebuild our place of worship,” Hassan said. “The government is not ready to allow us do so, as they claim that the Muslims in the town do not want to have any church there. We are waiting for the outcome of the case in court.”
Officers at the police station at Tudun Wada confirmed that there is no church building standing in the town.
Asked where the ECWA church was located, an officer told Morning Star News, “Do you see that tree over there? That’s where the ECWA church is.”
Near the tree where the ECWA building once stood was part of its wall with an inscription by the Kano State Land and Survey agency warning against redevelopment of the land.
Morning Star News returned to the police station and remarked to the officer that only the ruins of the church building remained near the tree.
“Don’t you know that there is no church in Tudun Wada Dankandai?” he said.
Asked about the church pastor, he said, “Sorry, the pastor does not stay in this town; he comes from Kano on Sundays. I also worship with them under a tree you see there. That’s where we worship.”

Billy Graham at 99: He Kept the Faith and (Mostly) Dropped the Politics

Conservative Christian leaders have President Trump’s ear, but they are certainly not the first evangelicals to counsel the leader of the free world. The most famous evangelist of the 20th century, Billy Graham, advised many an American president, though differently than Trump’s faith advisors approach the job.
As Graham celebrates his 99th birthday on Tuesday (Nov. 7), in what his son Franklin described as “stable” health, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is kicking off a yearlong celebration of the preacher’s past. Franklin Graham, who heads the association, said it will highlight the elder Graham’s “impact on worldwide evangelism and personal testimonies of people whose lives were forever changed at one of my father’s crusades.”
It’s safe to say that Billy Graham’s politics won’t be a central focus of the commemoration. But when he was an up-and-coming preacher wearing hand-painted ties, and later, when he was America’s leading Christian evangelist in the heart of the Cold War, everyone knew where he stood on politics.
Graham railed against communism and anti-war demonstrators. He helped presidential candidates and gave them advice once they made it to the White House.
Over the years, Graham spoke to an estimated 84 million people at his crusades around the world, his wide reach increasing to 210 million when it includes live audiences that watched him via satellite. His success, religious historians say, was a precursor to the political rise of evangelicals and set the stage for recent faith-based public discourse on abortion, gay marriage and other issues.
As other conservative religious figures like the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and others gained sway in the political arena, Graham, deliberately withdrew from it, at least in public. His focus was on the gospel, not politics, when he visited Flushing Meadows Corona Park in June 2005. “If I get up and talk about some political issue, it divides the audience,” Graham said at a press conference preceding the New York crusade. “What I want is a united audience to hear only the gospel. Many times (in the past) … I went too far in (dividing people on) such issues, and I think this time I want to stick only to the gospel.”
The substance of Graham’s crusades changed little, aside from the addition of Christian rock and hip-hop music, said William Martin, author of “A Prophet With Honor,” a biography of Graham. They still involved singing by George Beverly Shea, who became part of Graham’s inner circle in the 1940s, and ended with Graham speaking for 20 to 30 minutes and asking people to respond to his “invitation” to convert. (Shea died in 2013 at the age of 104.)
Graham’s son Franklin has spoken publicly against Islam in recent years, garnering the type of publicity his father studiously avoided since the 1970s after his association with President Richard Nixon hurt his reputation. Since then, as evangelicals have increasingly linked themselves to the Republican Party, Graham cautioned religious leaders not to align too closely with any political program.
“Billy Graham … has been unwilling to draw lines that would alienate other people or rule them out of his circle,” Martin said. “Many of the other conservative Christians who are involved in politics are not only willing to do that; they seem bent on doing that.” Graham gained White House access in his 30s and advised Presidents Eisenhower, Johnson and Nixon on politics.
After his stature grew in the 1940s and 1950s with well-publicized crusades in Los Angeles, Washington, New York and Britain, presidents found it in their interest to meet and be seen with him. Graham used the access to offer political advice that belied a professed desire to avoid taking sides, Martin wrote in his book.
While Graham rarely endorsed candidates, from the 1950s to the 1970s “he was more partisan than he let out,” said Mark Noll, a professor of history at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. “He did keep politics out of his public messages, but he wanted to take a part in public life, and the engines of publicity were there for somebody who was charismatic and could keep out of scandal like Graham.”
Graham had a close association with Nixon, and the president’s downfall shocked Graham in many ways, not the least of which was the profanity that Oval Office tapes showed Nixon freely used, according to Martin. The release of other tapes almost 30 years later dealt an embarrassing blow because they showed Graham speaking with Nixon negatively about Jewish news media figures in ways many Jews found offensive. Graham apologized repeatedly for the comments about Jews and for becoming too close to power.
His humility earned praise for his character, said Leo Sandon, professor emeritus of religion and American studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School.
“At times when Billy Graham, I thought, was showing the worst judgment, which in my opinion would be … with Nixon, even then, no one ever doubted his integrity, his honesty,” Sandon said. “His greatest problem was a lot of celebrity and publicity. He loved to be in that White House.”
It helped Graham’s recovery, Martin said, that he had since led global conferences — including two in the Netherlands in the 1980s — to bring Christians of various denominations together and help ministers preach. Graham’s willingness to associate with liberal mainline Protestants led to a break with Christian fundamentalists.
Through the years, his views became less conservative on many issues social conservatives care about most. According to “A Prophet With Honor,” Graham remained generally conservative but believed administration of the death penalty is biased against poor people. He regarded homosexuality as sinful “but no more so than adultery,” and said, “There are worse sins.”
At a time when many conservative Christian leaders were trying to focus public concern on secularism and gay marriage, Graham stressed poverty as the most pressing social issue.
But more recently, Graham’s messages on social issues waded into the political fray, leading some observers to speculate that his outspoken son played a role in his father’s political participation.
In 2012, in a prayer letter released by his ministry, Graham decried abortion and “a lack of shame over sin,” and took a more prominent role in partisan politics, after years of public avoidance.
That same year, as voters on North Carolina considered an amendment to the state constitution stipulating that marriage was between a man and a woman, a full-page ad taken out in several papers quoted Billy Graham saying:
“At 93, I never thought we would have to debate the definition of marriage. The Bible is clear — God’s definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. I want to urge my fellow North Carolinians to vote for the marriage amendment.”

It’s A Double Dose from Isabella Melodies as she Releases TWO New Albums titled ‘A New Beginning & Indescribable’
Iconic gospel minister, Isabella Melodies, releases her 7th & 8th studio albums on 06 November 2017. Both albums contain a total of 23 original songs all written by Isabella.
Included in the double release is her seventh studio album titled “Indescribable (The Complete Album)” with thirteen tracks all produced by Wilson Joel of Doxology Music, and her eight studio album titled “A New Beginning” with ten tracks, all produced by Niyi-P.
Asked why she is releasing two albums at once rather than releasing singles as is the norm, Isabella has this to say.
“The double release is very prophetic for me. If you have followed my music ministry over the years, you will know that I am not conventional in my approach and that double album releases is part of my story. I released my 2nd & 3rd albums together in 2012, and my 4th & 5th albums together in 2014. Songwriting is one of my strongest gifts from God and I receive new songs from the Lord daily so there’s an overflow of songs in my spirit which I am strongly led to release to bless God and His people whilst I am on this side of eternity. I appreciate the logic behind releasing lots of singles, which I do every so often, however I operate uniquely as inspired and led by the Holy Spirit. I am very grateful  and honoured to be a vessel that carries and releases His sound in abundance”
Both albums comprise of contemporary Praise & Worship songs suitable for use during congregational or private worship time. A couple of the tracks are in Igbo language. The albums are available for download from all major online music stores.
