TOPIC: The Glorious Garment Of Praise (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 9 February 2019)
Bible In One Year: Leviticus 6-7; Matthew 25:1-30
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Psalms 150:1-6
MEMORY VERSE: “And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?” – Matthew 21:16
Jesus came to set the captives free. Some of the captives in question are those who are in bondage and oppression of the spirit of heaviness, depression and discouragement. There are times in the lives of people, including believers, when they feel exhausted, depressed and discouraged. When this uncalled for season of life comes, what should you do? What do you do to the spirit of heaviness, discouragement and depression? The Bible provides a perfect answer: put on the garment of praise!
Isaiah 61:3 depicts that festive joy shall be part of the Messiah’s reign. The spirit of heaviness refers to discouragement. It is to be replaced by an abundant life (garment of praise). The message here is that worship-filled praise has the power to cast oppressive works of darkness.
What can bring spirit of heaviness, discouragement or oppression? Life is full of ups and downs. The enemy is in a rage and is unrelentingly attacking God’s children. What the devil did to Job is capable of bringing the spirit of heaviness upon anyone. Job said, “Even though he slay me, I will yet praise Him”. God sometimes allows our faith to be tested through adversities and life’s vicissitudes. When such unpleasant things happen, man gets discouraged and depressed. Elijah was discouraged and depressed shortly after his triumph over the prophets of Baal on mount Carmel because Jezebel threatened to kill him. He ran for his dear life to the wilderness and later hid himself in a cave until God intervened and told him to go to the mountain top. The spirit of heaviness can attack anyone, but we must learn how to handle it biblically. When you experience discouragement or depression, put on the garment of praise. One of the major hallmarks of Jesus’ ministry is to replace the spirit of heaviness in the lives of people with the glorious garment of praise. The devil wants to overwhelm believers with worries, discouragement and depression. He wants life to be hard and difficult for them. Hence, he fights believers with worrisome diseases and afflictions, unemployment, inability to pay bills like rent, school fees and so on as well as marital turbulence. When a believer is overwhelmed and overburdened by all these, he or she will not be able to praise God. God inhabits the praises of His people and, in praising God, the believer gets untold blessings from the Most High God. Don’t be ignorant of the devices of the devil. The enemy does not want you to praise God. His evil tactic, is to weigh you down with discouragement and depression so that you don’t praise Him. You are created to worship and praise Him. Don’t let the devil have his way. Tell the devil that no matter what he does to you, you will put on the garments of praise and praise the Lord highly and always. Like Job, tell the devil and all who care to listen that even though God slays you, you will yet praise Him.
